Ben Davies is the latest to fall into that category, with the Welsh international initially primed to return for Sunday’s visit of Wolves but no longer available. Davies suffered a setback in training this week, which means Spurs could be without a fit centre-back after Radu Dragusin was forced off in the latter stages of Thursday’s 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest with an ankle issue. Ange with a team news update ahead of Wolves on Sunday 🗣️ pic.twitter.com/0EiYh4TP8j — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) December 27, 2024 Postecoglou is already without first-choice central defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven after both failed to make it through their comeback fixture against Chelsea on December 7. “Yeah, that’s been our major problem this year. Guys who are coming back from injury rather than us losing players as such,” Postecoglou said. “We’re looking at those things and why they’re happening. It’s certainly happened too often this year where guys have come back and they’re the ones who are missing. “I think just about all of them, apart from Vic (Guglielmo Vicario), are recurrences of an injury. “Even with Romero, it was a different injury but it’s still a guy coming back, so it’s something we’re looking at.” There could be good news on the horizon with attackers Mikey Moore and Richarlison expected to return to training next week. A post shared by Richarlison (@richarlison) Richarlison suffered his own setback in November when his short-lived return after a calf issue was cut short when he injured the same area against Aston Villa. Moore, meanwhile, has been sidelined by a virus for the best part of two months but the 17-year-old could provide a much-needed spark in the new year when Newcastle visit on January 4. Postecoglou said: “Him and Richy are in the final phases. Next week they can start training. We’ve got a bit of a gap before the Newcastle game. “The plan is Mikey and Richy come back into first-team training next week.” Anticipated returns for Moore and Richarlison will fail to help Postecoglou against Wolves, with makeshift centre-back Archie Gray potentially set to partner up with fellow midfielder Yves Bissouma if Dragusin cannot recover. Pressed on the issue of fixture scheduling, with Spurs definitely missing eight players for Sunday’s fixture, Postecoglou said: “It is challenging. “All clubs are going to have to get their heads around it and authorities are going to have to get their heads around it. “One of two things need to happen: either you somehow change the fixture schedule, which doesn’t seem feasible, or you allow clubs bigger squads. Then you have other issues with that, as well. “The attrition rate you’re seeing and it’s not just us. We’re going through a particularly badly moment. Newcastle went through it last year and it affected them pretty badly. They were obviously in the Champions League as well and probably didn’t have the squad to cope with it. “It hits certain clubs at different times and is probably becoming more prevalent, and for all of us it’s a challenge as to how we navigate this process to keep our players healthy. “It’s not just a physical thing, it’s a mental thing. For us it’s been constant since August and we’re not even halfway through the year. And they’re not going to get a break now, so these things we’re constantly assessing.”
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Zarigue Nutter scored 22 points and secured the victory with a jump shot with two seconds remaining as Georgia State defeated Tulsa 74-71 on Wednesday. Nutter shot 9 of 15 from the field and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line for the Panthers (4-3). Cesare Edwards scored 18 points and added 16 rebounds. Nicholas McMullen had 13 points and shot 4 of 9 from the field and 5 for 8 from the line. The Golden Hurricane (4-4) were led in scoring by Keaston Willis, who finished with 18 points. Tulsa also got 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists from Dwon Odom. Tyshawn Archie had 12 points. The Associated Press created this story using technology provided by Data Skrive and data from Sportradar .UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The deadliest place for women is at home and 140 women and girls on average were killed by an intimate partner or family member per day last year, two U.N. agencies reported Monday. Globally, an intimate partner or family member was responsible for the deaths of approximately 51,100 women and girls during 2023, an increase from an estimated 48,800 victims in 2022, UN Women and the U.N. Office of Drugs and Crime said. The report released on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women said the increase was largely the result of more data being available from countries and not more killings. But the two agencies stressed that “Women and girls everywhere continue to be affected by this extreme form of gender-based violence and no region is excluded.” And they said, “the home is the most dangerous place for women and girls.” UN Women’s Deputy Executive Director Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda told a news conference launching the report that women have been killed by their loved ones for a long time and the trend is continuing because underlying issues haven’t been addressed — especially gender stereotyping and social norms. “This is killing which is associated with power over women,” she said, and it continues because of the continuing impunity for violent attacks against women. Gumbonzvanda, a Zimbabwean and longtime advocate for women’s rights, said there is “a lot of perpetrator anonymity” when it comes to the killing of women by partners or family members because “it means the family members have to bring justice against another family member.” UN Women is campaigning for those with economic and political power and for leaders in various traditions not to use their power to perpetuate violence. “Power should be used to facilitate options for prevention,” she said. According to the report, the highest number of intimate partner and family killings was in Africa – with an estimated 21,700 victims in 2023. Africa also had the highest number of victims relative to the size of its population — 2.9 victims per 100,000 people, it said. There were also high rates last year in the Americas with 1.6 female victims per 100,000 and in Oceania with 1.5 per 100,000, it said. Rates were significantly lower in Asia at 0.8 victims per 100,000 and Europe at 0.6 per 100,000. According to the report, the intentional killing of women in the private sphere in Europe and the Americas is largely by intimate partners. By contrast, the vast majority of male homicides take place outside homes and families, it said. “Even though men and boys account for , women and girls continue to be disproportionately affected by lethal violence in the private sphere,” the report said. “An estimated 80% of all homicide victims in 2023 were men while 20% were women, but lethal violence within the family takes a much higher toll on women than men, with almost 60% of all women who were intentionally killed in 2023 being victims of intimate partner/family member homicide,” it said. The report said that despite and girls by countries, their killings “remain at alarmingly high levels.” “They are often the culmination of repeated episodes of gender-based violence, which means they are preventable through timely and effective interventions,” the two agencies said. The United States is expected to announce that it will send $1.25 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, U.S. officials said Friday, as the Biden administration pushes to get as much aid to Kyiv as possible before leaving office on Jan. 20. Related video above: Biden works to cement legacy during final month in office The large package of aid includes a significant amount of munitions, including for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems and the HAWK air defense system. It also will provide Stinger missiles and 155 mm- and 105 mm artillery rounds, officials said. The officials, who said they expect the announcement to be made on Monday, spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details not yet made public. The new aid comes as Russia has launched a barrage of attacks against Ukraine’s power facilities in recent days, although Ukraine has said it intercepted a significant number of the missiles and drones. Russian and Ukrainian forces are also still in a bitter battle around the Russian border region of Kursk, where Moscow has sent thousands of North Korean troops to help reclaim territory taken by Ukraine. Earlier this month, senior defense officials acknowledged that that the Defense Department may not be able to send all of the remaining $5.6 billion in Pentagon weapons and equipment stocks passed by Congress for Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump is sworn in. Trump has talked about getting some type of negotiated settlement between Ukraine and Russia, and spoken about his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Many U.S. and European leaders are concerned that it might result in a poor deal for Ukraine and they worry that he won't provide Ukraine with all the weapons funding approved by Congress. The aid in the new package is in presidential drawdown authority, which allows the Pentagon to take weapons off the shelves and send them quickly to Ukraine. This latest assistance would reduce the remaining amount to about $4.35 billion. Officials have said they hope that an influx of aid will help strengthen Ukraine’s hand, should Zelenskyy decide it’s time to negotiate. One senior defense official said that while the U.S. will continue to provide weapons to Ukraine until Jan. 20, there may well be funds remaining that will be available for the incoming Trump administration to spend. According to the Pentagon, there is also about $1.2 billion remaining in longer-term funding through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which is used to pay for weapons contracts that would not be delivered for a year or more. Officials have said the administration anticipates releasing all of that money before the end of the calendar year. If the new package is included, the U.S. has provided more than $64 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022.Tusculum remembers Dr. Nancy Moody, 27th president of the UniversityUS President-elect Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Friday to pause the potential TikTok ban from going into effect until his administration can pursue a “political resolution” to the issue. The request came as TikTok and the Biden administration filed opposing briefs to the court, in which the company argued the court should strike down a law that could ban the platform by January 19 while the government emphasised its position that the statute is needed to eliminate a national security risk. “President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully requests that the court consider staying the Act’s deadline for divestment of January 19 2025, while it considers the merits of this case,” said Mr Trump’s amicus brief, which supported neither party in the case. The filings come ahead of oral arguments scheduled for January 10 on whether the law, which requires TikTok to divest from its China-based parent company or face a ban, unlawfully restricts speech in violation of the First Amendment. Earlier this month, a panel of three federal judges on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit unanimously upheld the statute, leading TikTok to appeal to the Supreme Court. The brief from Mr Trump said he opposes banning TikTok at this junction and “seeks the ability to resolve the issues at hand through political means once he takes office”.

Chelsea Green wants Saturday’s Survivor Series: WarGames card at Rogers Arena to be a rousing success so that it can be a resumé line for the WWE putting WrestleMania in Vancouver one day. Green, 33, a Victoria native who’s been a professional wrestler for a decade and is in her second run with the WWE, has it all mapped out. WrestleMania, which is the WWE’s Super Bowl, could go at B.C. Place, and noted Vancouver Canucks fan Green — she’s worn Canucks colours in matches previously — could come to the ring that night wearing a team jersey. “Definitely Quinn Hughes ,” Green said when asked whose number she’d sport. “Old me would have said Ryan Kesler. Old me was a diehard, ride-or-die Kesler fan. But we have to evolve with the times. “I was a wrestling fan growing up but I’m also a Canadian girl. I’ve always been a hockey fan. I dated hockey players. We go to these (NHL) rinks and there’s always someone I’m friends with. Going into Rogers Arena is always really cool, especially because growing up I really couldn’t afford to get off the island, go to Vancouver, stay in Vancouver and pay for a Canucks ticket,” she said. “Now I’ve got the privilege of changing in the Canucks locker rooms, of going down the Canucks entrance to park my car. This is just stuff that Little Chelsea dreamed of. This is exceptionally special for me because of that, and because I get to show my co-workers this. This is me. These are my friends. These are my family. That’s where my sister lives. That’s where I partied when the Canucks played Boston in the finals. “I want Rogers Arena (on Saturday) to be full to the brim, busting at the seams. I want the excitement level to a 12 out of 10 so that there’s no way that the WWE doesn’t want to come back and doesn’t want to have another moment here. I mean, if Taylor Swift can go to B.C. Place ... WWE can go to B.C. Place.” Survivor Series: WarGames is one of the WWE’s premium live events. There are four or five major ones every year, and they’re used to drive storylines toward WrestleMania, which takes place every April. Saturday marks the biggest WWE show in Vancouver since Rock Bottom: In Your House, which took place at Rogers Arena (then known as General Motors Place) Dec. 13, 1998. Saturday’s card features two WarGames matches, which pits two teams of five wrestlers battling it out in side-by-side rings enclosed by a steel cage. The women’s match has Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, Naomi, Iyo Sky and Bayley taking on Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton and Candice LeRae. With the men, it’s Roman Reigns, Jey and Jimmy Uso, Sami Zayn and CM Punk versus Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa and Bronson Reed. According to Ticketmaster, there are seats available, including on the floor. Cities reportedly bid to host major WWE events, but it’s hard to come up with information on how that exactly works. The WWE has said the past couple of years that a WrestleMania can bring US$200 million or more in economic impact to a region, so it’s easy to assume that the competition to land one is fierce. The next WrestleMania is in April at Allegiant Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. The previous three stops for WrestleMania were Philadelphia, Inglewood, Calif., and Arlington, Texas. Toronto has hosted WrestleMania twice, the last coming in 2002. Toronto hosted the Money in the Bank WWE show at Scotbiabank Arena in July. Green says that Canadian crowds are “smart fans,” gaining momentum as a show builds. She maintains the building was loud in Toronto. She’s hoping for the same on Saturday. “That’s the allure of WWE. It’s the fandom and the crowd chants and us reacting to the crowd chants,” she said. Green was just in Vancouver. She was part of the fan march with the Grey Cup, she was at a Canucks game and did a bit with mascot Fin. She isn’t listed on the card, but is promising to be there and says “you never know...I might just wander through the stands...anything can happen.” Green has been getting more TV time from the WWE. Her move set has been featuring a flying leg lariat, which is an ode to her husband Matt Cardona, 39, a former WWE grappler turned independent wrestling staple. He uses it as a finishing manoeuvre that he’s tagged as Radio Silence. “I’m trying to include their move set in mine,” Green said of Cardona and his buddies Brian Myers and Nic Nemeth, two more former WWE competitors who have moved on to other companies. “You know, keeping them alive (to WWE fans).” Green says that she and Cardona rarely talk wrestling at home, which is in Florida. “When I step off the airplane and into the Orlando airport, I like to turn off,” she said. “I’m often talking wrestling 24/7. When I’m done this interview, I’ll go downstairs with a cup of coffee and watch some terrible Christmas movie.” Wrestling couples are commonplace. Vancouver indy wrestlers Artemis Spencer and Nicole Matthews are another example. They’ve actually been known to square off in the ring for local promotions like Nation Extreme Wrestling. Don’t expect something similar with Cardona and Green. “We trained together once and will never ever, ever be training together again,” Green said of mixing up on the mat with Cardona. “Let me tell you — it takes a special couple to be able to live together, be friends, work together and then train together. That’s where I draw the line. I love my husband but ‘No, thank you.’ “At the end of the day, he’s taught me so much, but it’s not in the ring. It’s everything else. It’s the way I handle myself, it’s my attitude, it’s my social media, it’s my promos.” @SteveEwen SEwen@postmedia.comSpeakers from 90 countries take part in Doha Forum Youth Edition

In a segment on his podcast, Warriors legend Draymond Green gave his candid take on LeBron James . According to Green, while Father Time is finally catching up to the King after 21 years, he's not quite "done" being one of the best players on the planet. "Is father time catching up to him? Absolutely," said Green . "Because Father Time catches up to everyone. However, where I disagree is people are saying, 'Oh, we just saw it. Now he's done!' I disagree with that and the reason I disagree with that is that it looks like to me right now that he's a little tired. But we have to remember the [Lakers] played into the playoffs last year, they fought an uphill battle to make it there and then he comes in and does the Olympics with no time off. I think LeBron [James] has hit a little bit of a wall right now." As someone who has battled LeBron at the peak of his powers, Draymond knows all too well the kind of impact that James has on the floor. Even now, in year 22, LeBron is the center of everything for the Lakers and they need him at full strength to compete in the West. So after dragging them to the playoffs, and losing to the Nuggets in the first round, it would have been better for James to rest and prepare his body for the upcoming season. Instead, James took it upon himself to compete in the Olympic Games this summer where he logged heavy minutes as a focal point of the team. To say that LeBron has been overworked over the past six months might be an understatement at this point given his age and the frequency with which he comes to save the day for the Lakers This season, however, LeBron has been struggling to play up to his usual standards. With averages of 22.0 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per game on 48.2% shooting (34.5% from three), James is having his worst scoring season in years and it has put the Lakers in a difficult position. LeBron's ongoing shooting slump is perhaps the worst of his career so far and many Lakers fans believe it's the start of his natural decline as one of the best players in the game. Draymond Green has problems of his own to worry about on the Warriors but he has defended LeBron before and it's no surprise to see him to it again here. And while Green cannot deny LeBron's losing battle against time, he will deny that his glory days are completely over. Even now, at 39 years old, LeBron James can still be an effective player for the Lakers both on the court and in the locker room. But if the team wants any hope of making a lasting run, they'll need to shift their focus to Anthony Davis and rebuild everything around him. With one or maybe two more years left, LeBron knows that the end is near but he's hoping to end things on good terms, with his team still in the championship picture. Tonight, LeBron and the Lakers will have another chance to set things right against the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center at 7:30 PM EST. Their East road trip continues on Friday, December 6th, against the Hawks at 7:30 PM EST in State Farm Arena. Finally, the Lakers are back home for their matchup against the Trail Blazers on Saturday, December 8th, at 9:30 PM EST.
